Brown Threads… #PantsuitNation

You can read about Brown’s open curriculum online any day, but not necessarily see for yourself the stylin’ trends Brown students are rocking on College Hill. My name is Marie Lachance, and I’m super excited to be a blogger for Brown Threads, which will feature all the incredible fashion Brown has to offer! I am a first year hoping to study social enterprise, and outside of blogging I love swimming, aesthetically pleasing cafés, good music, and dark chocolate.

For a second, let’s put down our political beliefs and attempt to agree on one thing: Pantsuits are incredible.

For my ladies out there reading this, if you have never worn a pantsuit before, I highly recommend trying one out. If you’re like me and get frustrated with skirts and dresses, or just want to try something different, give one of these a go!

I bought these patterned, semi-formal pants at H&M a couple of years ago, and they may be my favorite article of clothing. I wore them on election day, matched with a flowy white top and my signature bright red coat, attempting to channel my inner Clinton. Not only did I receive a lot of compliments, but I also noticed how incredibly empowered I felt wearing them- like nothing could stop me!

Unfortunately, something did… I ended up tripping in the street on my way to class and ripping them… but that’s beside the point (and a testament to my clumsiness…) The point is, dress them up (pictured below)… with heels and a formal shirt…

Or simply wear a more casual shirt and flats, boots, or even sneakers. You honestly can wear them with anything, and I swear you’ll feel great! I recommend getting slightly cropped ones, just for stylistic reasons, but whatever floats your boat 🙂

Whatever your feelings are regarding the election, take a moment to appreciate one good thing that came out of it- the rise of the Pantsuit.

See you next week with more fashion inspiration from our stylin’ Brunonians! As always, feel free to reach out to me with any questions about life at Brown at
