You can read about Brown’s open curriculum online any day, but not necessarily see for yourself the stylin’ trends Brown students are rocking on College Hill. My name is Marie Lachance, and I’m super excited to be a blogger for Brown Threads, which will feature all the incredible fashion Brown has to offer! I am a first year hoping to study social enterprise, and outside of blogging I love swimming, aesthetically pleasing cafés, good music, and dark chocolate.
I’m assuming no one applies to Brown solely to attend Big Ten-esque tail gates and football games. With that being said, come the Brown-Harvard game, Brown students take advantage of this limited opportunity, put on their cutest Bruno apparel (they may or may not have purchased from the Bookstore the day before…) and pretend they go to UMich for the big football game.
Don’t fret if football isn’t your thing- in fact, that seems to be the last thing that football games are about for a lot of students. Instead, people are preoccupied with the best way to rep their school- jerseys? Leggings or shorts? Sweatshirt for later or forget it? Read on to solve all of these incredibly pressing issues!
The outfit: Although it’s not necessarily summer anymore, my general rule is to dress like it’s warmer than it is, because chances are if you’re going somewhere busy like a football stadium, you’re gonna get warm. My advice is to strike a balance- if you go for the leggings, do a short sleeve/tank top, and vice versa with long sleeves and shorts. Be careful when selecting your apparel- Harvard’s color is crimson, which is our accent color… don’t be reppin’ the wrong Ivy on accident.
The accessories: Here’s the fun part. There is so much to choose from- hats, socks, gloves, even cups- accessories galore! I swear that at the bookstore you can find pretty much any product you want with a Brown sticker slapped on it. My absolute favorite accessory are my Brown socks, and not just to avoid hat hair. A little bit extraneous, yes, but cute nonetheless, and they come in so many different colors and styles!
The spirit: My general rule of thumb here- go all out! It’s so much fun to be spirited with your friends- this way even if we end up loosing the game (which we did…) you can still be proud of your school and rally on for next time. Try racking up as many Brown logos as you can 🙂
Although athletics may not be Brown’s #1 attribute, it is still important to rep our teams and have a good time as well! Go Bruno!
