Hey ya’ll! I’m Vicki: class of 2019, ethnomusicology and applied-math economics double concentrator, and your blogger for the Music to My Ears column. I’ll be writing all about Brown’s diverse and bustling music scene each week, so stay tuned!
Like many Brown students, I love getting involved on campus. This post is a shout-out to an awesome group I’m a part of: B-side, also known as Brown’s one and only music journal.
B-side is a completely student-run group comprised of chill people who share a love for music and writing! It’s also a group that’s in its infancy – it was started just last year. B-side is all about publishing solid content that highlights both local and broader music scenes.
Genre tastes range widely, as does the reach of the articles: recent pieces featured big name artists such as Animal Collective, Providence underground scenes such as Funky Jungle, and Brown musicians.
B-side is comprised of several teams: there’s the staff and writing team, which is responsible for the content (articles, playlists) published weekly on the site. We also have people on multimedia who put out the great video content on our site. There’s also an events team that puts on awesome events around campus – last year we threw a few parties featuring musicians, and this semester we’ll hopefully be hosting a Coffee Haus event every other week at the Underground, Brown’s student-run coffee shop (it’s a really cool concept – check it out here!) Coffee Haus is a chill opportunity for students to hear other student musicians while hanging out in a dope space.
Basically, if you’re into music, there’s probably something that B-side can do. Check out the Facebook page here.
