Interested in the latest trends on the Brown college campus? Curious as to how one keeps their outfits on fleek up in the temperamental Providence weather? Don’t understand fashion at all and want a place to start? Welcome to Brown Threads – the only place to get the inside scoop on fashion at Brown! My name is Abby Espiritu, and I’m here to help you learn all about all looking chic and fabulous on campus.
One of my favorite things about living in Providence is how close Brown is to the wondrous Providence Place Mall. Supposedly dubbed as the “largest indoor carpeted mall” (whatever that means…) this three floor-shopping/two-floor dining has all your favorites in food (The Cheesecake Factory), makeup (Sephora), and fashion (Madewell!).
Just in time for the release of their fabulous winter collection, popular retail store Madewell teamed up with Fashion@Brown to create the perfect opportunity to get a head start on holiday shopping. On Thursday, November 19, F@B teamed up with Madewell at the Providence Place Mall to present “Shopping 101”: a special night for college students and teachers to treat themselves after midterms and relax and unwind with sweet treats and sleek styles. Anyone who presented a valid college ID received 20% off their entire purchase. Also included were yummy treats and sweets from North Bakery.
Snickerdoodles, Brownie Bites, Lemon Squares, Pellegrino…aka, perfect after-class snacks
As a Madewell associate back in my home state of New Jersey, I’ve always been a huge fan of their low-key, relaxed yet trendy, “just rolled out of bed but I still look fabulous” look. It’s the perfect aesthetic for college campus fashion life! So, when F@B announced this event, it’s accurate to say I was pretty excited.
Once in the store, I was entranced by all the stylish winter trends, many of which I’ve seen frequently on campus over the past few weeks. Pictured below are some of my favorites:
Warm, slouchy hats and one-piece suits like jumpers and overalls have become a common trend during the
never=ending midterms! chilly fall season.
Oversized scarves are cute, comfy, and keep you from wearing that scratchy, itchy turtleneck that your mom made you pack even though you hate it…
Has it become seasonably appropriate yet to break out my huge
obnoxious winter coat? Yes, the answer is yes.
socks = an essential during winter dorm life
All in all, the event was a fun, easy way to stock up on some heavy winter gear before the ultimate chill sets in. (Fun fact: Even when they’re not holding special “Shopping 101” events, Madewell always offers a 15% discount to all college students, as long as you show them your ID! Just one more thing to take advantage of once you’re up here on College Hill!)
