Hi there Brunonians! My name is Michelle Zabat. I’m your friendly first-year foodie, originally from marvelous Michigan. If you’ve ever wondered what the dining scene is like at Brown University, look no further than Hungry As a Bear. I’m here to share the scoop on all things delicious both at Brown and around Providence. Dig in!
Sometimes you just need food that’s quick, easy, and (most importantly) delicious. What’s a hungry college student to do? If you’re not in the mood for a muffin at The Blue Room or a to-go box from the Ratty, then a quick stop on Thayer might be the right option for you. Providence boasts an amazing array of food trucks that serve up hot food made-to-order out of the back of a fully-equipped truck kitchen. If you’re like me and you come from a place where food trucks aren’t a common sight, these are often an exciting change of pace for lunch or dinner.
Aside from being super-conveniently parked right near the center of campus, there is an amazing variety of different cuisines to choose from! I’ve noticed that there’s a gyro cart right next to the Sciences Library almost every day. Other common vendors include Mama Kim’s (Korean barbecue), Plouf Plouf Gastronomie (French delicacies), and Lotus Pepper (Vietnamese). There are a ton of others that make appearances too, like Buddha Belly (Chinese food), Fugo (Latin American and Asian fusion), Like No Udder (vegan soft serve ice cream), and O’Crepe (Parisian Crepes).
So next time you’re in town and looking for something exciting to spice up your normal meal routine, head to Thayer and see what trucks you can find. You never know–you may be in for a delicious surprise!
