Brown Threads: The Spring Weekend Tank

Ever wonder what college students wear to survive the temperamental New England weather in style? Not sure what to pack for college? Curious about the trends fashionable Brown students are trying out each season? Look no further! Brown Threads with Caitlin Meuser will feature weekly posts about the fashion seen on Brown University’s campus.

Spring brings many things to Brown’s campus. Spring brings a large crowd on the steps of Faunce, people playing Frisbee on the Main Green, and students lining up for iced coffee at the Blue Room. While all of these things are great, spring also brings the best weekend of all. That’s right, I’m talking about Spring Weekend.

For all of you who don’t know what Spring Weekend is, it’s basically an excuse to get crazy with friends with dancing on the Main Green to some great performers. It’s an excuse to spend the whole weekend having fun and letting off steam before finals hit. While almost anything goes when it comes to Spring Weekend, tank tops are the go-to attire.

When I say tank tops, I’m not just talking about your standard white tank that you can buy in a pack of five for ten dollars. I am talking about tank tops that will immortalize Spring Weekend 2014 forever in your mind, tank tops that proudly advertise your student group or sports team, and tank tops that bring together all pop culture and Brown-related jokes from the academic year. Its common for people to buy a whole collection of different tanks before the weekend hits so that they can wear a different one to each concert and still have some clean ones left to wear out at night.

So while there are many indicators that Spring as arrived at Brown University, the wide collection of spring weekend tank tops that can be found on students come next weekend is really the final indicator that the nice weather is officially here to stay.
