Hello, Brown hopefuls! My name is Kimberly Truong and I am the awkward (but utterly thrilled) first-year behind A Fresh View. With that big question mark hovering over where you’ll be spending the next four years of your life, rest assured that this freshman will tell you her experience as she stumbles through the wonderful world of Brown.
I must say I created an ambitious schedule last week because I honestly didn’t even follow it. Then, I proceeded to do things college students are typically admonished about doing – like not drinking my medication when the first signs of a cold were showing. So here’s how my week went down with the cold:
Monday: Feeling horrible.
8:30-10am – Physics class
10am-2pm – Slept right through math class at 1pm.
Thankfully, I was awake by 2pm when my friend dropped by with a medicinal tea beverage that I’m still grateful for to this day. Started my physics problem set later on in the night.
9am – Breakfast at Ratty
10am-12pm – Honestly I don’t remember what I was doing…
12pm-1pm – Meeting with my NSP mentor
1pm-2pm – Quick (last-minute) preparation for my writers on writing seminar
2:30pm-6:30pm — Class (two seminars, one an hour and a half long and another two hours and a half long straight through—I know, my Tuesdays are rough.)
7pm – Dinner.
8pm – Shower.
9pm – Got stuck on a physics problem, stopped by Science Center extra help, and finished it by 12 pm.
8:30-10am – Physics class
10am-12:00pm – SciLi, writing preliminary notes and outline for paper due tomorrow
12pm – Lunch
1pm-2pm – Math class
2pm-3pm — Caught up with a friend I’ve haven’t seen in a while who happened to be heading to the CIT when I just had left the building. We had an hour-long conversation outside the SciLi.
3pm-5pm – Physics lab
5pm-7pm – Started writing paper in SciLi.
7pm – Dinner at Jo’s.
8pm-11pm – Continued paper writing.
11pm-12am – Talked to a friend down the hall about our week.
12am-3am – Started my math problem set. Due the next day… (OKAY, NEVER START YOUR MATH PROBLEM SET THE NIGHT BEFORE LIKE I DID.)
9am—Writing Fellow meeting
10am-12pm—Edited paper, do more math problems
1pm – Lunch
2:30pm – Walked to my reading which got cancelled due to the snow storm
2:45pm-4pm – Finished up my math problem set, had no time for the last problem, skipped down to Kasser (math building) at 3:50 to pass my problem set in the TA’s mailbox by 4pm. Close call.
5pm-8pm – Cleaned my room, shower, dinner.
11pm-1am – Dance party in my friend’s room because the Long Weekend was almost here!
Lesson is: Take care of yourself early if you do find yourself getting sick so you don’t fall behind in your work and do things too close to the deadline. A bit of stress is good, but more than enough made me panicked throughout my whole week which isn’t a good feeling to have. Luckily, I had the Long Weekend to recover!
Any questions or suggestions for my next post? Please send them my way at email@example.com. I’m happy to answer and heed to all of them!
