Be honest. One of the things that scares you the most about going to college is not knowing what the food is like. If you are worried about what you will be eating on campus once you arrive at Brown, look no further than Hungry as a Bear with Corrine Szczesny.
You might be wondering where the best place on campus is to get a quick late-night snack? Josiah’s (aka Jo’s), located in the Vartan Gregorian Quad, is the place to go. Jo’s is known for its quesadillas, but there are a variety of meal options to choose from. It is a wonderful place to grab dinner or a late-night snack after a night at the library, as well as a great place to meet with friends.
Josiah’s was named after Brown’s infamous Professor Josiah Stickney Carberry. Josiah Carberry is a fictional professor, who is said to have taught at Brown University. He was an expert in “psychoceramics”, the study of “cracked pots”. With the legend of Josiah Carberry is mind, the menus at Jo’s is anything but ordinary. There are several different stations at Jo’s, including a grill station with options including burgers, kielbasa, and chicken (the spicy chicken sandwich is my favorite), fries, mozzarella sticks, and onion rings. There is also a salad station and an alternating grilled sandwich and quesadilla station. Quesadillas are available on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays and there is normally a line for quesadillas before the doors even open.

One station that makes Jo’s special is the Three Burner station. This new station offers rotating specials, including gourmet tacos, with meats including cajun shrimp, pulled pork, and duck confit, a pho bar with three broths with all sorts of available mix-ins, and grilled cheese with assorted breads, cheeses and dips.
If you do not have time to get a meal, there are plenty of snacks available at Jo’s, including baked goods, fruit, yogurt, juice, chips, and ice cream. In addition to Jo’s, there is also Little Jo’s, is a mini-market where you can purchase dorm supplies and food. Little Jo’s is located outside the dining room at Jo’s. Points can be used at Little Jo’s, so you can purchase items using your meal plan. In addition, both points and meal credits can be used at Jo’s. So, when you are looking for that late night hangout, consider Josiah’s. Jo’s is open everyday from 6 pm to 2 am. Little Jo’s is open everyday from 6 pm to 1:30 am.
